Meet the MEMA Team
Charles E. Summers, Jr.
Charlie brings an impressive level of professional leadership experience to MEMA. He’s a recognized civilian and military leader with significant experience in the political, military, veteran, and small business communities. Most recently, Charlie served as the Principal Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Megan Diver
Megan has worked in Maine politics for nearly ten years and all of her professional career, having served in many roles for staff, elected officials (including former Secretary of State Charlie Summers), in-house with the Maine Association of REALTORS®, legislative specialist at Pierce Atwood LLP providing lobbying services and support to Pierce Atwood’s government relations clients and most recently senior government relations specialist at the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. Megan currently is the Vice President at the Maine Energy Marketers Association.
Hannah Estes
Hannah joined the MEMA team in early 2011 and brings tremendous value to the Association. With a broad background in senior-level accounting, she previously served as an accounting manager for a well-respected company in Portland. Hannah handles everything from accounts receivable and payable to budgetary work, administering MTEC registrations and managing Association software.
Meghan Sylvester
Meghan joined the MEMA team in 2023 with a rich background in communications, content creation, and graphic design within the non-profit sector. She previous worked as a communications and digital engagement manager for a non-profit in Augusta, Maine. Originally from south Louisiana, Meghan has a Master of Arts degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Outside the office, you can find Meghan with her head in a book and a cat in her lap. We are thrilled to have Meghan join our team!
Samantha McKinney
Samantha joins us as our new Administrative Assistant, bringing in over 15 years of experience in administration and management. She has experience in multiple industries from healthcare to childcare. With deep roots in the heating industry, the scent of propane and heating oil feels like home to her. We are so happy she is here! She is always smiling, willing to assist in the needs of our students, customers, and office to help keep everything running smoothly.
Sarah Nadeau
After working closely with Robin Manson for two years, and most recently with Christa Fairbanks, MEMA’s former Health Insurance Trust Administrator over the last year, Sarah assumed her new position as Office & Insurance Administrator for the MEMA Health Insurance Trust in October 2021. Sarah continues to maintain a close relationship with the MEMA & MTEC staff and is ready to assist all MEMA’s Members with their Health Insurance needs while maintaining her trademark attention to detail, sense of humor and the cheery disposition our members have come to know and appreciate. Sarah remains in a supportive role, as well, helping to address the day-to-day operations for MTEC & MEMA.
Roger Mitchell
Roger received his Heating and Cooling education in the Air Force and he was quickly promoted to Shift Supervisor where he found the knack to teach others. He then Joined Maritime Energy in Rockland as a Service Technician. While at Maritime he became the Service Manager and later the Distribution Manager. Roger has held several different positions over the years that gives him the knowledge to share with others how the Heating and Cooling industry operates. Roger was instrumental in the creation of the MTEC lab as he built the lab and the curriculums. In 2023, Roger rejoined the Maine Energy Marketers Association as Dean of MTEC, where he continues to share his decades of experience with the next generation of HVAC professionals. Known for his wisdom and calm, thoughtful approach, Roger offers invaluable insight to both newcomers and experienced techs alike. His passion for teaching, combined with his unmatched industry knowledge, makes him a trusted guide and mentor to all who pass through his classroom.
David Cupka
David has been in the HVAC industry for more than 40 years, first starting in the US Air Force as an air conditioning and refrigeration specialist. Since then, he has held multiple positions for different HVAC companies across the US, including working as a service manager for Trane Heating and Air Conditioning for 11 years. In 2006, he started his own company, Aircon, Inc. He is experienced with service and sales engineering, has a vast knowledge of any HVAC system, and is certified in handling propane, natural gas, and EPA Refrigeration. Most recently, Dave taught HVAC/R courses at the Northeast Technical Institute.
Dave joined our team in 2023 and quickly became a standout instructor. While he carries himself with a calm, calculated confidence, his dry wit and no-nonsense teaching style resonate strongly with students. He’s respected for his deep knowledge, steady presence, and ability to challenge students in just the right way.
Rick Kenny
Rick has worked within the HVAC-R sector for over 30 years. In high school, he was part of the HVAC-R program at the Portland Regional Vocational Technical Center (P.R.V.T.C.), now formally known as Portland Arts and Technical High School (PATHS). He then went on to serve four years in the US Marine Corps. In 1986, Rick got his first job with an HVAC company. Over the years, he gained experience in the many facets of the industry, including sales, delivery, installation, and services. Most recently, Rick worked as a service manager for Dead River Company. Rick joined our team in 2024 and has since become a valued instructor known not only for his deep industry knowledge, but also for his upbeat attitude and easy rapport with students. Always quick with a smile—and often a witty comeback—Rick takes good-natured teasing from students and staff alike in stride, creating a classroom atmosphere that’s both welcoming and fun.Â
